I’m usually a pretty tough critic on remixes of the Scanners. They’re one band I don’t want to hear people fucking with. But Blamma!
I’m usually a pretty tough critic on remixes of the Scanners. They’re one band I don’t want to hear people fucking with. But Blamma! Blamma! just dropped this remix, and it’s kinda exciting. Ok, it doesn’t do much for me until the vocals kick in… but then it takes off and mixed with the vocoder stuff it’s pretty damn good. Once the vocals drop out it kinda gets lost again — but I guess my complaints could get mixed out in the middle of a set. Definitely a nice break from all the obvious bangers…

Scanners – “Raw” (Blamma! Blamma! Scanner! mix) (mp3)

“Lowlife” is on my top ten all time favorite list. Anyway. LA Riots’ remix has been getting a lot of blog play. This remix is pretty straight forward… but it does the original proud by not getting too far off the path. Of course the original is the most perfect song ever and you could play it backwards and it’d still be good. So it’d be tough to fuck this one up… but still. Good stuff:

So It’s been about a week since all the madness began. Too much crazy shit happened. We were pretty much the only ones representing every band with a dance routine. Most DJ’s don’t even support each other and most of them play the same shit. Bands rule, and rocking out drunk from noon until 2am for five days in a row pretty much kicks ass, and then it kicks your ass once you go back home. We had a blast and can’t wait to go again next year. Thanks to all the great DJ’s and bands that showed their love to the BigStereo family. In particular thanks to Spektrum, DJ Omar, Peaches, Johnny Love, DJ DJ Dylan, Franki Chan, Daniel, Yo Majesty, that awesome cab driver with the English accent from Texas, Cheyne, Nathan, Katrina, Walter Meego, Greg, Lo Fi Fnk, Lazaro, Factory People, and the rest of you that said hello or tried to dance. A Big fuck you to UV Vodka and Monster for the bad hang overs.

This is my second Scanners post in a relatively short period of time. If I didn’t control myself, I would probably be writing a Scanners post daily. Or something. As far as I can tell, the general internet buzz is minimal, but the buzz that does exist is total over the top, drooling, defend-or-die type buzz. Those who know love this band. Love.

Not much about Violence Is Golden feels new. It almost sounds like a derivative of all that British indie rock we’ve been inundated with over the past few years. Perhaps though with a flash of 90’s pop-grunge-whatever that is so hot right now. So how do the Scanners succeed? They deliver their music flawlessly, without effort. They hit it perfectly. Then there is singer Sarah Dailey whose pasionate vocals are without even a hint of ambivalence. She exudes confidence like in a “I must tell you this right now” type way. And you will listen. The band demands your attention. Good stuff.

I’m not offering up anything new here, but in case you missed it the first time…

Scanners – “Low Life” (radio edit) (mp3)

If I was super nerdy (ok who am I fooling?) and were a list type person, I would find Scanners’ Violence Is Golden edging for the top spot on favorite albums of 2006. I hope I don’t sound to zealous. Arg.

In Scanners’ “Lowlife”, singer Sarah Dailey sings with a sense of urgency that cannot be ignored. Post-wave, post-goth, post-indie, whatever — Dim Mak’s Scanners is some catchy brit pop that is like the perfect way to end this week and head into the weekend. It’s chill yet it still holds an edge. Give it a try.
