San Diego come to this tomorrow night! It’s going to be so good.
Some new Golden Bug! Here he remixes Italy’s Enzo Ponzio who I posted back in 2008. You can find this with the original on Solar Disco Recordings loving the Bollywood flavour Golden Bug bring to the original! Golden Bug also has his own blog check it here.
Alec Empire just sent the video to ‘Activate’ over. It’s incredibly exciting to see the beautiful chaos is back in business. Brings back memories and gets me pumped up to see them in LA. Definitely not a show to be missed. Are you ready?
Light Year seems to be on all the big movers lips. The past few weeks I’ve seen various DJs including Mr Oizo, Surkin, 2manydjs, and Tiga all canning Light Year to massive crowds. If you haven’t got your copy on Bang Gang 12 Inches yet then I’m not sure what else you’re waiting on and if you’re lucky enough to be in Australia, Light Year are just about to embark on a national tour. Check the dates on their Myspace.
One of the highlights from Ecce’s debut album December Somewhere is “Heat”. It is quite the charmer and has just been released as a single with some stellar remixes by Pharao Black Magic, Proper Heat, and Get Physical’s Bronnt Industries Kapital. If you like this be sure to check out the album and “Control” EP all out through Tirk’s sister label August Day.
Everyone seems to have posted Reporter already, and we just had to. They’re from beautiful Portland, Oregon and I just can’t get enough of their album ‘Time Incredible’. The album is full of goth disco sexiness. They’re being compared to Glass Candy left and right, but in all honesty they stand on their own. Their dirty and grimey sound slaps the dancey and melodic vibe in the face. Its a battle of noise and pop and who knows which one wins. They completely fill the void I’ve had lately for Blonde Redhead’s hiatus (which will soon end). If a martini in hand in a dark cave like disco is your thing then go get Reporter’s new album now!
Pond’s “Annie Orangtree” is a serious jam! I really can’t stop listening to it and being made up of members of Tame Impala, Pond is sure to be a big thing. The Western Australian natives release their Frond record September 6th on Hole In The Sky.
Watching my creepily skinny naked exboyfriend pretend fucking a girl is kind of grossing me out even though I love the guy, but this song is driving me nuts. I love this track. A little Kate Bush, a little Ssion, and a little La Roux make for a lotta good time. Gay is the new black, get used to it. Check out Actually Huizenga and Chaz Windus’ project Wet Look and Actually’s now donezo project Hard Place’s split coming soon on Winter Palace Records.
Leave it to some boys from the Midwest to remind us how rad guitar rock is… Jaill’s new video has a beach/alien theme which is pretty rad by itself, but throw in some guitars and it’s like woah. No apologies garage rock sound… only makes me want to hear more.
Debut out on Sub Pop.
I DJed with B-Roc of The Knocks a few months ago. Dude totally blew me away with both his song selection and technical ability. Though I love The Knocks’ single “Blackout,” their new release “Make It Better” was definitely the highlight of the set. The latter dropped today on Neon Gold, and BIGSTEREO is happy to premiere the Emil & Friends remix of the cut. It’s super and tight (and it’s the only remix on the actual vinyl release), so be sure to check it out!
Teeth will save us all. The Hocus Tocus remix of “See Spaces” is like dropping an eight ball — fucking fuzzed out bliss ready to warp your mind. It’s like falling down the rabbit hole. The way music should be.
Tahiti Boy is back with a new project that is simply called The Lilies. It features Tahiti Boy and Sergio Dias of Os Mutantes plus the entire Palmtree Family and special guests Iggy Pop and Jane Birkin (imagine trying to coordinate that many bodies!) — interesting, yeah! This is a true collective of creativity. Look for the album out in Europe last week of September on Cooperative Music.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs takes on Tinashé’s single “Saved” off his debut. The world needs more angels, obvs. Pretty straight forward remix as far as TEED goes — but, naw a straight forward disco mix of some smooth pop isn’t a bad thing.
Oh man, finally some music with balls. Luca Venezia of Drop the Lime fame has an interesting new side project called Bad Lupo Grande (uh, or Big Bad Wolf). The first single “Rockabilly Fever” comes out on August 17th by way of Scion. Not sure even with Luca’s backing if rockabilly will be the “next big thing” but it is a much welcomed change in sound in a rather monotone landscape. Leave it to Drop the Lime to shake things up, keep things wild, and show off some well-versed creativity. A very nice surprise… slick back your hair and get ready to riot:
