Miike Snow – “The Rabbit”

Aw, you can tell it is summer. Miike Snow is back with a brand new mix helmed by Stuart Price. The video for “The Rabbit” is about as colorful as it gets, paying homage to Jamaica, bearded youth, 2 Live Crew and a touch/hint of daggering.

Sick to death of these music videos in 2010. With M.I.A. (which was admittedly the lesser of three evils, because it at least sort of suited the song) then Foals with Miami's music video, and now The Rabbit. Wantonly weird and nonsensical doesn't equal brilliance, it's just stupid.

I want music videos to feel like the songs they visualise. Some of the better examples of this are Justice's Stress (who the dude who made Born Free's clip did) and Only by Coma Cinema. I also quite liked CEO's Come With Me clip, that mask was rad.

But seriously. Bands need to cut this shit out.

it's funny that you give M.I.A. a free pass. if anyone is provocative solely for the sake of being provocative it is M.I.A. her entire career is based on "stirring the pot" — which is rarely brilliant.

this is just a fun, quirky video… brilliant, no? but it is entertaining to watch (the point of a music video) which is more to say than 90% of the cookie cutter videos out there.

I say Born Free is the lesser of the evils, not that it has a free pass. At least the tone of the video matches the tone of the song. It feels like a lot of effort went into the connection between the two. I don't think it's a brilliant video by any stretch of the imagination but I don't agree with the large majority condemning it because they heard other, smarter people doing the same.

I think The Rabbit doesn't evoke the feeling of the song or Miike Snow at all, and the same can definitely be said for Foals with theirs. But that's purely a personal interpretation and it's completely understandable you had a different reaction.

Foals have had killer videos that matched the sound of their work before (Olympic Airways being a great example), so why go a completely different nonsensical direction now. If anything I think these songs are trying to be more controversial than M.I.A., Born Free fits with her whole controversial image, where as this clip and Miami seem to have been created simply to fuel talk around the watercooler.

also, this video does a very good job of evoking the feeling of the song — both leave you with the same whimsical feeling.
