We Have Band

10 June 2009 :: posted by Travis

Kinda amazing video for We Have Band’s “You Came Out” — 4,816 still images were used so obvs that’s a lot of make up on and off. Definitely could find yourself watching this more than once.

  1. am i the only one that doesn’t understand how bands with music like this get popular?

    not that it’s “bad” music necessarily, i enjoy many, many artists with similar musical outputs… but most, if not all of them, have the musical ability to put more than 2 chords in their songs… with supporting melodies that actually make sense. and can actually sing. I can’t recall this band’s other songs (which should also speak worlds) so I’m merely pointing out how bland this particular “single” is.

    seems like kids these days eat up anything with an electronically programmed beat behind it. makes me sad, that’s all.

    with that being said, the video is actually pretty cool.

  2. I hear ya, dude. I don’t automatically write off songs because of simplistic elements, and a lot of times it works, but the vocals in this are pretty fucking uninspired (and I was into Uffie way back when for god’s sake). I don’t hate the song or anything but it surprises me as well that it’s a single.

    • my sentiments exactly. i have a high appreciation for when somebody can make something simple last for more than 3 minutes (and not bore the fuck out of me), but i’m having a hard time with this…

  3. music is art they can do what ever they want if they want to speak lyrics and have 2 chord progression let em, you dont have to like nor listen to it, but the reason bands like this get popular is becos some else likes god its the same ppl buy crap paintings its all in the eye of the beholder if u cant deal with that go listen to the bloody radio and u can hear rihanna 15 times a day adn she didnt even write her songs instead of omg indie music is to indie

  4. like the song the vid is kinda iffy though

  5. Simplicity is an effective aesthetic value if harnessed correctly and I think We Have Band has nailed it. Regardless of how technically complicated the track is, it’s an interesting listen and the video brings the experience full circle.

  6. …. deep.

  7. i think this is a great song and video i dont care what anyone says. reminds me of no wave art disco punk.

  8. oh and the whistling is genius. i want to be a professional whistler in a band.

  9. Ditto on the whistling comment. I like the song. I don’t mind repetition in music if it falls into a worthy groove and keeps at it. I like this track better than “Oh!”, and I think that the video is awesome.
