Yeah I totally agree on that one but I thought that James murphy was going on a bit too.. but yeah the interviews were lame, and I'd watch the justice one again if purely just for the humor I mean It's way more action packed and I loved the Bus driver and the tour manager.

I'd say the big difference is that a Christopher Guest movie tends to be cleverer than it looks, whereas Justice look cleverer than they are.

Personally I think the Justice documentary has it's tongue firmly in it's cheek. Similar to a Christopher guest movie. The bit where they try setting the groupies on fire is hilarious.

The Soulwax documentary is more dissapointing, wasted chances in terms of interviews of their contemparies (although the digitalism bit is good), Tiga and his attempts at humour are almost painful (why soulwax? blah blah). Nothing is learnt about the band either really, the easter egg with James Murphy is perhaps the most insightful thing on it.

Both come with cracking live CD's though :-)!

I agree 110%. The Soulwax doc was brilliant, but maybe predictably so because the band themselves are. Justice (like a lot of the acts on Ed Banger, unfortunately) act as though it's all a big joke, but they don't seem to realize the joke isn't funny anymore (tee hee). Or maybe it was never all that funny to begin with. They're decent entertainers but there just doesn't seem to be much beyond the obvious. Soulwax, on the other hand...it's just a completely different story.

Soulwax blows Justice out of the water. Soulwax is a bunch of brainiacs when it comes to musical talent while Justice is performers. If you look at the set list of all Justice's shows youd notice that they are all the same. Wow, congrats, you've put together a great set but come on now. At least with Soulwax you are there for a show, and thats just what their DVD provides. I felt myself falling asleep trying to watch A Cross The Universe. I saw Part of The Weekend Never Dies first and kept thinking to myself how much A Cross The Universe would blow it out of the water only to be disappointed with what I saw. Truth be told, dont waste your time with A Cross The Universe, just watch the trailer cause that is honestly the only good thing about the movie. Part of the Weekend Never Dies can be found in my DVD collection and I'd suggest it to be on yours too.

the soulwax dvd was crafted with a clear purpose. And it gave fans a real insight into their work. i have given it to people who have never seen soulwax or even heard of their work and they now want to go see a 2manydj's show.
The justice dvd was disappointing but they had an idea that it would be. They called it their teen movie. Which is apt since it does nothing to stimulate or reinvigorate my love for the duo. mindless popcorn fodder. the best bit for me happened to be the piano playing which where the germs for planisphere.

Justice's (devout Christian) tourbus driver provides a nice dose of wisdom among the mayhem of the boys on tour.

i cant imagine it in that setting, all pumped waiting to see them perform live minutes later. i can imagine they could have played a pre screening of the new terminator movie before soulwax and still people would be uncomfortable watching it standing up waiting for soulwax to play.

aii...Are you kidding? I went to the Soulwax prescreening / concert in San Francisco, and the documentary screening was pathetic. A lot of people looked very uncomfortable watching it (the same ones who looked much more comfortable dancing later). I thought it was fiercely boring - sex, drugs, rock and roll, blah blah blah, with not so much as an interesting insight or angle on "the lifestyle" throughout the whole movie. Watching that movie was like a chore...couldn't wait for it to finish so they could start the show and do what they do best.
