2 Hearts = 1

“Two Of Hearts” has ebbed and flowed out of pop culture for the past twenty plus years. And has been covered a few times along the way — the most famous cover being by Stacey Q.
Everyone’s favorite hipster pop queen Annie covered the track for her new album, Don’t Stop. The song got cut from the final tracklisting, and the album release got pushed to next year — but “Two Of Hearts” made it onto the Internets. The track itself is some noisy, clangy Richard X production that is probably the most original cover version out there…

We posted Rizzo and Pizzo’s cover two years ago. Two years later and Rizzo and Pizzo are no more, but their “Two Of Hearts” lives on in my iTunes collection:

What, what. And of course blog darlings Purple Crush covered the track on their Welcome 2 Emo-Club EP. In many ways this is closer to Stacey Q’s version than the previous two mixes but it’s Purple Crush all the way:

Let’s not forget Sue Gatlin. This is the ORIGINAL which most people don’t even know. It definitely has more of a freestyle/electro track than a glossy synth-pop track which actually makes a lot of since given the lyrics. It wasn’t until a little while later that Stacey Q covered the song with Jon St. James producing and turned it into what everybody thinks of when you mention “Two Of Hearts.” Stacey Q is what we all grew up on, but something about the original is super charming and earnest. Freestyle always wins out in my book.

There are about 20 more covers out there. Some good, some not so good. Anyway. Hats off to Stacey Q:
