HEARTSREVOLUTION

Astute reader “El Dorado” left this comment on our recent HEARTSREVOLUTION post:

They may be trying to mature as artists… but whats with all this romanticizing suicide bullshit?

The video for Digital Suicide is pure cheese.

Promoting suicide is known as one of the lamest gimmicks a band can use to sound ‘edgy’… continued.

I had not seen the video (til now) but had previously thought the song itself was more of a metaphor for a loss of innocence rather than a literal suicide. Maybe I’m thinking too much — but doesn’t the video confirm that thought?

Suicide — not hot… but there’s actually something very beautiful about “Digital Suicide” that is missing with a lot of HEARTSREVOLUTION’s contemporaries.

Thoughts?

  1. isn’t it “suicide all my tendencies”?

    anyways, penis

  2. More of a cute vignette than block of cheese a la Michael Stipe Crying in traffic. Big Fun - Don’t Do It.

Ain’t no reason not to use a word just cause it’s most taboo. It is a metaphor/placeholder. I remember The Faint took some heat for Agenda Suicide too. And when Lemmings was released for the 386… all hell broke loose.

I hope this gets flipped into something danceable.

  3. very touching.

  4. donkeybasketball: Its already been danceably flipped on the EP.

Hyped up mix from the CD. Its the first track on there, only place I could find it on the net. Its not danceable PERSAY but I could find a place for it in a set no problem.

And there’s a Sonic Me remix of it that takes it a little more low and slow.

  6. suicide is really hot.

    population control.

  7. soylent green is human

  8. VIDEO CLIP BY BASTIEN LATTANZIO

  9. can the chick actually sing or do they always depend on really bad distortion masking and vocal mods?

  10. Who cares? I like it.

  11. hey el dorado,
    fuck you.
the video isn’t about suicide…and you probably don’t even understand the song..and none of it is trying to “romanticize” anything.
    hearts, lo
    ps. you suck

  12. heartschallenger is sooo righteous and mature. kind of like a fundamentalist that can use the fuck words. almost cute. in a way

but izn’t heartschallenger also way hypocritical? the lyrics sound like ’stop the world I want to get off”. if so, el dorito might have a point. that’s pretty corny. for serious.

and if not, what IZ dis song about?

for all of us who don’t understand it

Ps - la riots remix of heartsrevolution, not so bad.

  13. Yo Heartschallenger,

It seriously looks like the tip of that knife is going for that girl’s wrist on the cover of the Switchblade EP. And Digital Suicide does sound like a kinda pretty, haunting sweet suicide anthem. Making suicide taboo as a topic would be completely stupid, though making it sound so pretty to highly impressionable youths is definitely gimmicky.

Okay okay. Maybe it’s not fair - even a bit dickish - to call the video pure cheese. The lighting is cool. Love the shout out to Sonic Youth. And you two both look like models.

But what’s up? Why not give a little insight into this work instead of such a defensive response.

If you don’t let us know a little bit of what your artwork is about, then the world only has the impressions your work leaves to form an opinion.

Lately, this impression seems to include a romanticism of suicide. And that certainly doesn’t sound like any of the options that were in any of the Choose Your Own Adventure books I read growing up…

Though that would have been pretty fucking hilarious. And maybe too resonant with the real dangers of the lame cultural void enveloping modern suburban youth and other troubled young folks around the world.

By the way, to quote the petite and often times pretty damn funny Kat Williams: people need to be more thankful for their haters. :)

  14. i’m unfortunately going to have to agree that this is quite cheesey and a tad immature. it’s a cool idea and i totally dig heartsrevolution, but what they had in mind for this video started off good but was definitely executed poorly.

    better luck next time?
