The Verve + ROKR

I got something in the mail that just couldn’t be fucked with and this isn’t something we’d typically post but I had to tell you. My boyfriend and me enthusiastically opened a box that was delivered to our door steps to find three other boxes inside it. I was told that I was being sent the preview to The Verve’s new album, Forth, which I was excited to hear since Urban Hymns is one of my favorite and most listened to albums. What was even more exciting was the way we listened to it, on the new Motorola ROKR phone which was given along with a wireless speaker and ear phones. The phone is pretty awesome. The most impressive thing was that the surface changes according to what you are doing, either listening to music, making a call or taking a picture. So I asked my boyfriend, Maurice, to write the review and I recommend you check him out in the latest issue of Vapors magazine (pages 24, 53 and 131).

The term “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” should be a song title on The Verve’s latest album, Forth, because in all honestly nothing has really changed all that much since the last one. I’m not saying Forth is not worth the listen, on the contrary, if you¹re a fan of the chaps from Manchester, than you will no doubt be in glee of the familiar rifts, bass lines and vocals. From the opening somber mood of “Appalachian Springs” to the upbeat ”Love Is Noise” to the ender “Valium Skies” this is definitely an album made for an already established fan base. Some standouts include “Columbo”, “Love Is Noise” and “Noise Epic’ (even though it reminded me of some 80’s U2). But the coolest part about this album is how it was presented to the editorial types. The entire album arrived pre-downloaded on the new Motorola ROKR accompanied by a JBL Bluetooth portable speaker - very nice indeed. If The Verve moved you the last three outings the Forth picks up right where the trip last ended.

* We weren’t provided with a song to stream and I couldn’t find any remixes I liked… maybe someone should do one? But you check out there video for “Love is Noise” here.
