Bonde Do Role

While the future of Bonde Do Role hangs in the air — it is pretty much certain that Marina’s shoes are big ones to fill. While official word from their camp is they’re currently recruiting a replacement, my secret (ok, not so secret) hope is Gorky and Pedro continue as a duo while bringing in guest vocalists as needed. “Miami Beach,” off the recently released Marina Gasolina, is perhaps the bands most commercial friendly track to date, and is the perfect example of how a Marina-less Bonde Do Role might sound. Certainly anyone could sing that hook. If this is the direction they’re heading then the band still has a lot of potential for future success…

Smoke My Tabaco recently posted this remix of “Micose.” Totally highlights everything I love about Bonde Do Role — crazy sounds and gestures thrown together to make something that sounds remixed one thousand times already.

Jokers of the Scene’s remix of “Melo Do Tobaco” has been traveling over the internets like wild fire. Baile-nu-rave-funk — ack. Good stuff though:

Whatever the future brings, Bonde Do Role has already created an amazing, though rather short, catalogue — With Lasers being an embarrassing omission from this year’s Readers Poll. What’s wrong with you people? Jk, kinda.

We never bring you breaking news, but in case you missed it the first time around…

Official press release

Following the departure of Marina from the band, it is with great regret that Bonde do Role have had to cancel their Australian tour. The band will no longer be continuing with the same format, and remaining members Pedro and Gorky are currently working hard to recruit a new member. Bonde do Role have had an incredible year and have been through some unforgettable experiences together, and still remain friends.

    HOLY SHIT

can you guys not hear that MIA has stolen songs from them!

listen to their songs, the stuff on MIA’s album sounds like someone has obviously tried to copy them.

What is the exact release date of Bonde do Role’s album, because if M.I.A. didn’t copy them, then they copied her.

    hey there feather.

mia takes a lot from baile funk, which a style of music invented and developed by working class people in the brazilian city of rio de janeiro.
bonde do role are brazilian, but they just dont have that same background as those who created baile funk. they’re middle class kids from southern brazil.
so, in a way, mia is ripping off the sound of rio’s favelas just as much as bonde do role are.
but, in my opinion, bonde do role do it with much much better results.
