The Glass present Foltin

So artistic freedom is a beautiful thing. It means that people like Dominique from The Glass doesn’t HAVE to provide banging electro distorted tracks for his guest blog…..he’s free to introduce us to, well I’ll let him tell you…
So thanks to the blogs we are supertars in Skopje Macedonia. They have no official CDs or DVDs for sale there (all bootlegs) but they do have an amazing radio station located in an old Russian built broadcast center that a group of young Macedonians have taken over (and fought very hard to keep) to host a very cool underground radio station called 103 FM. The only place they can get music is online, so the blogs are like a religion to them. Stranegly enough, this means they play a lot of New York music, especially dfa releases and the like. They also play The Glass about ten times a day and have every piece of music I think we have ever made.
They have been trying to get us to play there for aorund two years and this time we actually made it. We arrived after 2 flights and landed at the smallest airport I have ever seen. Remember the counrty of Macedonia (part of former Yugoslavia) is not recognized by most nations (Alexander The Great was from there). Our amazing host and driver and promoter of the event, Ilina, took a wrong turn and we wound up driving through the Albanian/Muslim neighborhood which, without wanting to disrespect a beautiful intelligent nation, was like Borat’s home town.
Anyway all time spent in the car listening to the radio meant we got to hear plenty of Glass songs (very funny to us) but also this gem, a cover of David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ by Macedonian band Foltin. I just thought it was a great rendition (New York’s Dead Combo also do a great version, recorded live in CBGBs, see below) …. so this is our way of saying thank you to some amazingly creative people who struggle very hard to keep their
radio station alive… the party was also amazingly fun… 800 people on a Wednesday night which even included some of the directors of the biggest companies in Skopje (I mean old guys dancing in on tables, the works) and a reception that only be described as heart warming…
Dead Combo - Lets Dance (Live @ CBGB)
We could all use a little more Bowie in our lives….thanks guys.
