The Teenagers present Ladyhawke
15 December 2007 :: posted by BIGSTEREO
We managed to wrangle up Dorian from The Teenagers to share his insider secret for this guest blog. So let’s hear what you know that the rest of us don’t…
My new favourite band ever is called LADYHAWKE. It’s a 26 years old girl who just signed a deal with Modular and i discovered her music a week ago but i’m already a massive fan. I only know 2 songs but they’re always playing on my itunes since i found them. “Paris is burning” reminds me the best of Feist, but in a better and more original way, and “Back Of The Van” is a perfect 80’s pop music anthem. She produced everything by herself and it sounds like Jacques Lu Cont worked with her. Everything is here : strong songs, big choruses, bitterweet melodies…I love it. She’s amazing and you need to listen to her now. I sent her a message on myspace when i first heard her songs and we met yesterday night in London. We went to fun parties and now she just texted me that she’s too hungover to move from bed today. Album will be there in 2008, first single soon.
Mpegthrees removed per Modular’s request. But they’re posted on a billion other blogs. So look around or head over to Hype Machine.
And in case you’ve lost track of whats new with The Teenagers, they have “The world is not fair ep” out now in Japan (Klee Rallye), a US TOUR planned for January ‘08, a finished full-length album “Reality Check” due early 2008, and a Gentlemen Drivers “Homecoming” remix featured on KistunĂ© Maison 5 compilation.
Nice work, guys….

She’s self produced as far as having her own studio and creating her music all by herself. Presumably the major label will give her a swish studio and engineer.
She’s a kiwi lady. Also check out Two Lane Blacktop- her band before she moved over to Australia.

if only my mother taught me how to read :(

Why would Modular try to stop mp3s that are all over blogs already?? Is that even a battle worth fighting?? Modular owes a lot of it’s success and talent to blogs. Bad business.

she’s being compared to Feist because….?

nice. yeah shame about Modular, without blogs like bigstereo a lot of their artists would not be nearly as big, in the UK at least.

some confusion going on about the sydney’s duo Teenager and the trio from Paris The Teenagers.just to make it clear

@ TOTH:
Maybe Modular owes some success but how would they owe talent to blogs?

Self-produced? Damn straight. I’ve witnessed Ladyhawke in action and if the job of producer is to direct everyone else in earshot, in addition to playing every analog instrument involved, then she is it.

she’s not self produced, and that’s a fact.
it’s much worse for an artist’s reps to claim they are and for people to find out they are not later on. better to just not mention it and let people like what the artist is doing.
who really cares about this stuff if the music is good?
