Lady Tigra

The much blogged “Bass On The Bottom” is the closest you’re gonna get to The Lady Tigra’s earlier L’Trimm days. Party rap fans may be disappointed that Please Mr. BoomBox delivers a more mature sound than her earlier work; a funkier old school underground hip hop sound rather than booty bass dance pop. The album brings Lady Tigra closer to J*Davey territory — hell, there’s even hints of Erykah Badu and Bahamadia influences. But really, it’s not much of a surprise that we’re taken away from Uffie-ish playground disses. There’s little need to reinvent that wheel when there’s a whole crew of teenagers already taking care of that for her.

Overall pretty refreshing: Please Mr. BoomBox has enough smarts to outlast the latest imported French trend.

The album doesn’t hit the streets til January 2008 — but you can buy it now at iTunes, eMusic, etc… More info and complete tracklisting for Please Mr. BoomBox.
