Yelle

Our favorite French songstress is releasing her debut Pop Up on September 3rd. Hopefully you’re as psyched as we are… and if you’re not then I don’t wanna know you. Here’s a little sampler of Yelle’s Pop Up that should wet your whistle. A few favorites mixed in with some new shit…

Yelle - “Pop Up Teaser” (mp3)

Mewzick has a nice little review and some tracks worth checking out. Head over there and take a listen.

Oh and yeah. Word is Yelle is also releasing “ACDG” plus remixes on Kitsuné in October. That’s pretty damn cool of her.

    mais c’est naze …

putain dès que c’est français vous avez plus aucun esprit critique.

peut être parce que vous comprennez pas les paroles.

pourquoi pas koxie pendant que vous y êtes.

Can someone offer a good translation of Tristesse-Jolie?

Here’s what I’ve got but i think it’s pretty crappy:

    Tu nous guettes tous
    Tu nous cherches tous
Je ne fais jamais le premier pas
    Même quand mon coeur souffre

    You watch us all
    You want us all
I never make the first move
    even when my heart suffers

    Je suis heureuse
    Tu es envieuse
Tu es bien plus forte que moi
    Mais nous sommes nombreux

    I am happy
    you are envious
you are much stronger than i am
but we are many (awk? maybe not?)

    C’est ton choix
    On ne sait pas pourquoi
Et je suppose que quand tu bosses
    Tu n’sais pas pour qui
    Non plus

    it’s your choice
    i don’t know why
and i suppose that when you work (context: slave away, like a dog, etc.)
    you don’t know for who
    me neither

Arrête tes salades maintenant s’il te plaît
Je veux la paix, la vie m’appelle
Laisse moi transquile, je m’en vais

Order your salad now please (this is probably wrong - arrete tes salades is probably an idiom?)
i want peace, the life i call mine (awk)
leave me alone, i am going.

    CHORUS:
    Tristesse, Joie c’est comme ça
    Accorde nous un instant
Tu m’emmènes pour un aller simple

    Sadness, Joy, it’s like that.
    Gives us a moment (mmm…awk)

ok this was tricky but basically:

you take me along for a one-way (i.e. take me down a one-way street i think)

    Je vis, je pleure, bonheur
    Je souffre, malheur
    J’me couche t’à l’heure
Je n’ai pas le temps d’attendre que tu te déshabilles
    D’autres plaisirs m’attendent
Je speed si je reste immobile
Mes souvenirs seront vides comme cette boîte de vitamines

I live, I cry, luck. (could also be happiness)
    I suffer, badluck (misfortune)

I have no clue about this line, but i think it’s basically “i like (that) you layer the hours”
(hmmm. more thinking. could also be i like lying with you for an hour)

i don’t have the time to wait until you undress.
    Other pleasures await me
I (speed is clearly an idiom, not a french word) if I rest in place/remain imobile/am stationary
My memories are as empty as this box of vitamins (?)

L’amour me sert de fil conducteur
Ta bouche me sert de détonateur
La dead line arrive, je n’ai pas peur
    Attrape-moi si tu peux, je vis à 100 à l’heure

    Literally:
The love serves me as a line (thread) conducter
So i think basically (and in context of the next line)
Loves serves as my guiding thread
    your mouth sets me off
The deadline arrives, I’m not afraid
Trick/capture me if you can (able to/have the power), I live (no fucking clue; literally I live at 100 at the hour. maybe at 100 mph?)

    CHORUS

    then:
Je suis en vie à mort
    La mort jusqu’ici
Je suis en vie à mort
    La mort jusqu’ici
Je suis en vie à mort
    La mort jusqu’ici
Je suis en vie à mort
    La mort jusqu’ici

    I am living at death
(although: “a la vie a la mort: we are attached from life to death” kind of thing - promise type - could be a play on this)
    the death thus far (?)

    Je suis en viiiiiiiiiiiie
    A mooooooooort
    Je suis en viiiiiiiiiiiie
    A mooooooooort
    Je suis en viiiiiiiiiiiie
    A mooooooooort
    Je suis en viiiiiiiiiiiie
    A mooooooooort

I am alive at death. etc.
