Glass Candy

Glass Candy is a band that never gets enough blog love. Just kidding. Their music is easy enough to like, but good enough to last. Needless to say their newer demos live up to all hype. Producer Johnny Jewel’s signature down tempo disco sound is at the forefront of both tracks… and along with Chromatics, they’re forging the new disco sound:
Glass Candy - “Geto Boys” (demo)(mp3)
Glass Candy - “Candy Castle” (demo) (mp3)
… and another goodie:
Glass Candy - “Miss Broadway (Belle Epoque)” (mp3)

Hmmm, interestingly enough I go on the contrary. They were in top form for the last two or so years. Great track after great track, recently though, they’ve gone a bit downhill. Just long, repetitive, simple, rambling songs and a less exciting live show. Not to mention Ida’s sudden loss of personality. I still have hope they’ll hit it right again and really live up to the hype!
On the other hand, Chromatics have improved immensely I think. They’ve gone from sounding a bit like “Glass Candy pt.II” and being a bit all over the place sound wise to top notch lo-fi disco goodness. Interesting that Johnny Jewel is at the forefront of both bands though…what with such sudden different results.
