NWT: Blitz
31 July 2007 :: posted by MissingtoofGreetings. This is my first post, and I thought I’d start things off with one of my favorite hidden gems. Some of you may recognize the band Blitz as one of the most well known old school Oi/Punk bands. However not many people know that in 1983 they had a bit of a personnel split, with half of the band continuing on in the bland Punk style, while the other half released this beautiful monster of a Post-Punk album.
Second Empire Justice is what happens when a good melodic Punk band finally gets time in a real studio, with a real producer (Chris Nagle who earlier assisted the legendary Martin Hannet on a number of Joy Division and New Order albums).
I could go on and on about this album, but instead I’ll let you take a listen and decide for yourselves. This was one of the singles from this LP, and it is also one of my favorite Post-Punk songs ever recorded.

There isn’t a whole lot of info on this album out on the net, but you can still pick up a copy of the album through Amazon, and Cherry Red Records.

God damn I just had a teenage flashback.
Even when Blitz was at their Oi!/UK82 height they had a Post Punk edge.
“New Age” definitely had it with that drum beat and Peter Hook-esque bass line.
Has anyone else ever heard The Violators? From Manchester?
The songs “Gangland” “Summer of ‘81″ “Young Blades” “Crossing the Sangsara”
It’s like Siouxie meets Joy Division.

Oh wow, The Violators. Here I thought I was the only one with any of their music still.

Its your loss Giovanni. These are exceptional tracks that have aged very well. Definitely more interesting than Interpol or Editors or any of the other thousand Joy Division knockoffs.
Why not save yourself some agony and simply skip over NWT if it offends you so much?
