I just don’t get the point of putting his lame rap over a bunch of already famous songs like this or “Young Folks”. Taking a small excerpt and looping or so is cool, but this is just rediculous…

to who ever is so ignorant as to be so shock and awed that kanya would dare to sample your beloved gods daft punk: yes they are brilliant, but so is freaking kanye, so please take a seat. thanks! kanye had to pay for the sample, daft punk had to permit him to use the sample. daft punk’s whole career is based on sampling old funk music…hip hop is about referencing and co-opting, resampling, re-shuffling, re-contextualizing, cut and paste, mix and match. electro and techno computer music evolves from this freedom. its kind of a full circle action here and not so surprising. afterall, you bigstereo fans love re-edits of hiphop and crunk dontcha! so why can’t the same happen the other way, or is this only a one way street of co-optation and appropriation? hmmm? what’s surprising is how closed minded so-called alternative, indie, underground electronic music nerds really are (hihi) but thatls alright..you have plenty of time to grow up…

you’re right Travis… i’m personally not a fan of west, his music or his genre of music, especialy the crap that most top 40 pop/rnb artists produce – yet i think its awesome hes used a daft punk song and done, not an amazing, but reasonable (i wouldn’t expect any more from this type of music) job of it. At least now some kids who are brainwashed with top 40 music will have the opportunity to be introduced to and hopefully discover more decent tunes.

I think what is interesting is that West used such a recognizable sample… Whatever anyones personal feelings about West are… he is a big deal in the States. It is a bit of a cultural baramoter… which is exciting.

Kanye’ has already changed the game…Let it go!

Like Diddy, he’s financially secure…

He could sit on his ass all day, everyday, for the rest
of his life, if he wanted to yet he chooses not to…

As far as his Daft-theft is concerned, lets just say that everyone
bites off someone or something in the realm of artisty…

Do you really think Daft, Justice, Kavinski, Akira Kurosawa
and the rest of the previously referenced artists discovered something that hadn’t partially been done before???

Try digging in some crates and listen to the likes of Kraftwerk, Neu!, Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force etc..

[Kurosawa bit William Shakespeare, Dostoevsky, Georges Simenon
& Leo Tolstoy.]

We could argue that A-Trak’s presence might have had something
to do with Kanye’s evolving stilo but if I recall, rhymers & thugs
were still wearing clothes that ridiculously hung off their asses,
when Kanye began his metamorphosis?

Today, the streamlined look, prep stylings and nu-rave genre’
has penetrated the hipster hop nation, because of his and many
other influences and I am glad to see the boundaries have been
re-defined with more creativity and auditory challenge…

Props to K. West, Wale’, Lupe’ Fiasco, Madlib, Pharrell, Pharoahe Monch, Mos Def and many others who are continuing to fuel this evolution…

I’d rather listen to “Stronger,” than the rest of that Umbrella bullshit
that seems to be as rampant as the bubonic plague.

wow this shocked me, i really thought a bunch of people were going to say how much they loved Kanye, seems everyone did at least for one moment. To be honest I disliked the guy from the start. Two hilarious Kanye moments: Kanye on Punked(don’t ask why i watched) and Kanye with the Police for Live Earth(you really think he raps well? the whole song its him going uh uh uh uh uh uh uh, i guess at least he rhymes.)
