Armand Van Helden

I’ve got Armand Van Helden’s reworking of Kudu’s ‘Playing House’ on repeat in my head. It’s been stuck in there ever since i heard his new album, GhettoBlaster. He added a little bit of echo, a whole lotta bass, and a bit of AVH flair to make the original sound so tame in comparison, like a little housecat. I know Travis mentioned this song on his last AVH post a few months ago, but failed to indulge your musical sweet-tooth with a taste….

Make sure you listen to the lyrics…what a naughty little girl-next-door.

  11. Paris Man: Not everyone in the U.S. is as ignorant as the brilliant fellow who suggested that you use a dictionary to make out some unintelligible lyrics…

My understanding is not that you don’t understand what the words mean, but that you just can’t make them out, yes? As someone who speaks more than one language, you are certainly entitled not to catch every nuance of a foreign language.

And even though I’m completely American, there’s one line I can’t make out… it’s in the 3rd verse, right before “too young to have a spouse.”

    LYRICS:
    I have a special friend
    He lives across the street
    sometimes he’ll call me up
when he wants to play with me

we play all kinds of games
we both play hide and seek
    sometimes he’ll find me fast
    sometimes it takes him weeks

    ???
too young to have a spouse
I like to try new things
    I just playing house

    although it’s make believe
    I know what love’s about
    don’t need no diamond ring
    I just like playing house

    I’m not a little girl
    He’s not a little boy
    He comes into my world
And we share all our toys

he’ll look me in the eyes
and kiss me on the mouth
    we all have separate lives
    we’re only playing house

    although it’s make believe
    I know what love’s about
    don’t need no diamond ring
    I just like playing house

and it feels like he loves me
when he’s below or above me
and if he ever slips away
I know he’s thinking of me

and it feels like I love him
when I’m below or above him
And if he ever slips away
I’ll have sweet memories of him

    don’t need no diamond ring
    I just like playing house

  12. justine, the line you’re missing is:
a bit too old for games

  13. GREAT SONG!
