Codebreaker

Ah, shit. The new Codebreaker album has been sitting here on my desk for way, way too long. We posted a sneak back in July Oh Six, but somehow the album has slipped by us. No excuses.

Anyway.

I don’t pay album art much attention since my listening habits are a hundred percent digital these days, but… the cover of Codebreaker’s Exiled makes me think of the Man of La Mancha… couple that with their weird 50’s future vibe of the last album and the title Exiled and I don’t know what to think. At the root of all their work there is a feeling of ironyless nostalgia that channels such specific ideas and periods and experiences.

Part of what has taken so long for this post is picking a track. Arg, I hate making choices… especially when every single track is post friendly. “Dream Lover” has a 70’s vs. Justin Timberlake-esque vibe to it — I kinda expect this track to be in a Charlie’s Angels movie or on late night radio. Talk about channelling specific ideas and periods and experiences… Exiled tugs at memories.

  1. Their production is really clean. Milwaukee natives. 70’s vs. Justin Timberlake-esque vibe, yes.

  2. Hey, Steven from Codebreaker here. A friend just pointed out to me that the instant music player above has “Dream Lover” waaay slowed down for some reason….so for the record, it’s not supposed to sound like that!
Well, maybe it’s how we’d sound on traqulizers..

  6. Great album, but seriously the worst cover I’ve seen for a long time!

  7. Great Art work on the cover! To each their own.
