New Wave Tuesday: Mathematiques Modernes - Disco Rough
27 February 2007 :: posted by Missingtoof
We’re back with another edition of New Wave Tuesday & we’re also back on the ‘French Wave’ tip. This time we offer up this delectable piece of no-wave/new wave goodness titled Disco Rough by Mathematiques Modernes. Disco Rough was released as a single in 1980. You can still find the 12 inch on gemm in very good condition for $8.00. Or, as Dr. Droy reminded us last week, this track was also released on the compilation ‘So Young But So Cold (Underground French Music 1977 - 1983)‘ on Tigersushi. The comp is an unfiltered look into the cultish no-wave/new wave movement which was taking place at that time.

For fans of The Normal, Silicon Teens, Minny Pops & Units.

To my mind the best track of the compilation is certainly Polaroid - Roman Photo, from Ruth (it is on “BIPPP French Synth-Wave 1979 - 1985″ too)
Maybe you have to speak french for fully appreciate this song.

Thank you for posting Mathematiques Modernes! They are one of my favorite bands and it’s good to know that they have been slowly rediscovered. Thanks.

sorry for sleeping on this post- my wife has been buying tons of french stuff on ebay- she speaks french- says french people aren’t too into ebay so you can just buy all the shit for $5 a piece or whatever and it’s all record stores in stuff, so you can save on shipping…
