[BIGSTEREO is proud to present: New Wave Tuesdays, a new weekly column by Missingtoof.com]

Today for New Wave Tuesday we have minimal-electro-synth gem Mary Moor’s ‘Pretty Day’. Sparse beats, macabre lyrics sprinkled with electronic accents. ADULT.’s ancestor? Pretty Day is not your traditional 80’s pop, new wave but it came out during the era where anything that used a synth was labeled as such. This single was produced in 1983 by Guillaume Loizillon & computer enthusiast Claude Micheli. These guys were using Casio tones & laser blips before most of today’s electro artist were in diapers.

The extremely rare 7″ of this track goes for 100 dollars & up on vinyl collector sites. Fortunately you can buy it on a newly released comp called ‘BIPPP - FRENCH SYNTH WAVE 1979/85′. The comp is filled with hits that are underground like diamonds & stuff. Don’t Sleep.

  1. This is awesome…i especially like Ruth - Polaroid Roman Photo on the Bippp compilation. If you like this you should also check out ‘So Young But So Cold : Underground French Music 1977 - 1983′ -here: http://www.discogs.com/release/262190

Here you also get a good story and background of the early french scene.

  2. Yeah, ‘So Young But So Cold’ is a dope comp too. The track that I play the most off that one is ‘Disco Rough’.

    ‘riff-raff disco-o-o!’

  3. this is ace, another great band that I think had an influence on adult. is crash course in science. Check’em out, philly industrial madness from the 70s

  4. Wow. This so lo-fi, but I could see something like this coming out today..

    Y’know?
