Robyn - “Konichiwa Bitches” (YouTube)
Robyn’s “Konichiwa Bitches” has been bouncing around the internet for a couple years now… never seeing an official release until recently. It’s perfect little slice of internet rap and the first single off her new self titled due out this spring.
Menta’s remix is pretty damn happening too… I played it out this weekend. Be sure to grab that. Trentemoller has created an atypical surf rock inspired remix that wears on you after a couple listens.
the video is a funny combination of “i’m so hot” and being foolish.

BUT…
I’ve got a 12″ of this and it’s got a Cure sample running all the way through it - Close To Me’s xylophonic beats. Is this official or has someone booted it?

I keep seeing that the self-titled album is coming out this year, but I’ve had (and have been loving “Konichiwa Bitches”) since early 2006. Is it just now seeing a US release?

Steve, I’m not 100% sure, but — “Konichiwa Bitches” was “first” released on her ep last year (the same one with her cover of “Cobrastyle”). Her new self titled is being released in the UK in April… I don’t know about a US release date or if there is even one. I believe a lot of the material has been around for a while, but has been given a face lift. I know “Konichiwa Bitches” has been kicking around the internet since at least 05 — so I don’t know.
I think when I said, “never seeing an official release until recently” I was a tad confusing… I meant it hadn’t been released as a single until now. Oops!

Dude, normally I’m totally on board with your selections but I have to give a HUGE thumbs down for Robyn. She sounds like a 5 year old…I feel like I’m listening to the Wiggles or something.

I remember listening to Robyn back in the late 90s when she was big in the pop scene…this is an interesting switch, almost Peaches-esque.

“Konichiwa Bitches” was first featured on her self-titled album, which was released in Sweden almost two years ago. So, it’s quite an old track.

this track was in my playlist a while ago, and frankly i still find it very charming. especially when you look at it next to another track of hers from the same time, “be mine”(which fucking rules). She doesnt sound like someone trying to be a rapper. she made a funny/interesting song, enjoy it. and if you think that this sounds too “fergie” for you, get a grip, its 2 years old, do the math. also, just a note, to everyone who complains when a blog posts a song they dont like, bite it, most blogs have supplied you with so much music that a) is months ahead of you getting it, if not years or b)you would have never even heard it at all, so, just choke on a dick. if you dont like the songs? dont go to the blog, its that easy. and this is coming from someone who doesnt even have a blog. i cant imagine how somone who runs one feels about you dinks.

anon: i welcome any feedback… negative or positive. everybody has an opinion. i don’t expect people to agree with mine 100% of the time, and i don’t expect to agree with others all the time. i would feel like a total failure if the only comments we got were positive. if people hate something isn’t that better than being totally apathetic towards it? or even better than just loving whatever is thrown in front of them?
i hear what people are saying — and i agree that the original is a little “child” like. i beg you all to check out the menta remix. it’s got some stronger beats… and makes robyn sound a little more “mature.”
