2006

19 December 2006 :: posted by Travis

We finally finished counting all the votes for the 2006 Readers’ Poll. There were over a thousand votes… so, um. There was a lot of counting. A couple of these are so ‘05, but maybe they were big for you in 2006?

This was fun, we’ll have to remember to do this again in ‘07. Thank you for voting!

i forgot to vote. my badness : (

how far behind kitsune was institubes?

personally i think KIM’s “system breakdown” mini-album was release of the year.

    css as best artist? eh

  3. César Says:

CSS? What? How? They irritated me when I saw them open up for Ladytron in Austin.

Soulwax may have been so ‘05, but Americans didn’t get Nite Versions until this year (which blows)…I’m glad I voted.

  4. anticonformiste Says:

Oh CSS, admittedly a lot of fun for once in a while but completely overrated in general.

  5. Glue Says:

It’s so much fun to see that I’ve contributed at least a little to all of the catagories.

  6. Travis Says:

Roland: Institubes didn’t even make it past the nomination phase… which I was surprised by. It was pretty much a landslide win for Modular… Ed Banger and Kitsuné were neck and neck and were only a couple votes off from being a tie. The rest of the labels got a few votes each. But yeah, pretty much hands down Modular win…

Notice that CSS placed in each category. I’ve noticed people who don’t like CSS love to bitch about not liking CSS. If you don’t take CSS for anything more than they are and ignore the hype then they’re a lot of fun. I’m not surprised they won, but they weren’t my number one pick either.

for such an excellent blog, the winners are pretty a pretty weak representation of big stereo.

    yay silent shout!

we are your friends is still a great track, but c’mon, it’s been around since 2003 - SITOC was robbed!

and i completurly agree with derek, young folks was the anthem!

  13. Travis Says:

dr O, I agree completely. I was kinda irked by that… because clearly SITWOC was the best remix all year.

We Are Your Friends was re-issued this year through EMI so I imagine it reached a larger audience which means it was important to some people this year. It was played like everywhere. So… I guess. And it is such an anthem.

I don’t get Young Folks. At all. That track annoys me so much. But everybody loves it… so I guess it’s just me. Maybe I’m getting too old.
