I Am Spoonbender are back, and it’s about damn time. Not only have they made us wait this long for a new full length but they are paying us back for the wait. They are releasing their new album which was due for release in ‘04 for free!!!! Yes you heard right, for free. It is split in three parts with no seperations in songs and in wav format but hey can you really beat free?!
They are planning on releasing it for download through itunes and may release it officially later on.
The new album is incredible and doesn’t wander too much from the IAS sound, although they are incorporating more vocals, which is always great considering Cup and Dustin’s vocals do nothing more than provide an edgy soothing sound that is essential to the what the band is trying to accomplish. World domination? Probably not but they sure are doing something no one else can compete with at the moment. Not only are their words out of this world, but they make you contemplate and ask yourself if you are really even in the same realm as them.
The whole story of IAS is way too long and way too confusing that you will just have to do your own research. The band projects themselves as this sort of trippy science project gone wrong. Which is more than Klaus Nomi or Gary Numan could have dreamt of. You ask yourself are they on drugs? Probably not, they are beyond narcotics. Not only do they make you think they are on drugs, they make you think you are on drugs.
The album works great and it is definately an album that can not be skipped. They are beyond electro, beyond synth-pop, darkwave, or rock ‘n’ roll. At times this album reminds you of Adult., Enon, Kraftwerk, The Vanishing, and sometimes even Melt-Banana. Check it out and download it before it’s too late. Don’t forget to read the interview about their album on their site, it is pretty clever and would explain a lot of the mess i just wrote down.

IAS are fucking GENIUS. This album is the best 3 sided record i’ve heard this year. I don’t agree with your musical comparisons, however. Well, sorta. They don’t sound like anybody but themselves really, so.. I just don’t think they sound like those bands (side 3 a little bit). Some of IAS style is similar, but the music and, just the whole thing with the words, and their otherworldly-ness is more like progrock or something. Hmmm- they do remind me of Kraftwerk if you’re talking about the pre-robot records… Anyway, this isn’t dancefloor or party music like the groups you menrion. Buy Hidden Persuaders is like Coil’s L.S.D. cd for Laurie Anderson fans or something!

haha i definately agree they are on a level all their own. i wasn’t really comparing them to those bands, just trying to list some bands that i heard a bit in their new sound.

Ahhh! It downloaded as 122mb wav! Maybe you should mention that in the filename or something, as I have been careful not to blow my works bandwidth limit, and this could tip it over! Great blog tho, one of the best I check.

Rchrd, i don’t think you’re allowed to repost the files. it says so in the download thingee at the Ias site. Fyi. don’t know how tight they’re going to be about it.. plus you’re giving away the ending of the story SPOILER ALERT!
