Girl Monster
19 August 2006 :: posted by Travis
Girl Monster is Chick On Speeds’ most ambitious project since they launched their own record label. This three disc set is like the ultimate female electronic-punk compilation collection ever. Ever. Razor and Tie better watch out.
With 61 tracks, Girl Monster is sure to please — you have your “classics” from the Slits and Delta 5 who set the pace for a movement. You have your obvious C.O.S. label staples like Angie Reed and Planningtorock. There are the “stars” like Le Tigre and Peaches and Bjork. And then of course the people you should know but probably don’t. This is like the ultimate primer, ultimate collection, ultimate whatever. It’s like Electroclash never happened — the hype, the backlash. You know what I mean?
There’s a six track teaser EP out now. XXJFG has an mp3 which might be the only mp3 you hear until the cd is released. This EP is vinyl only kids — which means no digital release. Translation: if you want to listen to Girl Monster on your personal digital audio player then you’ll either have to: a) get off your lazy ass and rip it from your turntables or b) wait until the cd comes out on September 18th (UK).
Maybe.

I was turned on the Girl Monster comp.THIS year from a friend of mine. I fucking love it. It was exactly what I needed from the humdrum buzz of mediocrity that is suffering in music these days.
