Holy Hail

You know. As much as I love 20 Jazz Funk Greats… I need to say: I hate always being two steps behind them.
Ok. What is truly bizarre about Holy Hail is that the lead singer is none other than Cat from FannyPack. Which would explain the sing-song-rap style influence on some of Holy Hails tracks. Stop there. Because you’re not about to hear some FannyPack spin-off. Holy Hail has that disco played with guitars sound that is so ripe — like the dirty south of The Gossip mixed with some B-52′s madness… or maybe even something like the Scissor Sisters mixed with Rilo Kiley. Like if Rilo Kiley wasn’t dripping in Omaha infused country and the Scissor Sisters weren’t totally overproduced Top Of The Pops nonsense. New wave vs. house music for the thinkers.

So. Is FannyPack actually R.I.P.? Promo around their last album was minimal. Both of FannyPack’s Myspace pages are gone. Their official site hasn’t been updated in over a year. Rumor is Matt and Fancy are off working on a solo project. And Cat is bound to blow up big with Holy Hail… well maybe. It would seem that FannyPack is dead. All the signs are there.
Over right? Except for this oddity. FannyPack has a new song called “Fash’On” in an Old Navy ad. Of course “Fash’On” is not a song. It’s not even a jingle. It’s a chant. The least common denominators of the two best things FannyPack had going on: Belinda and Cheerleading chants.
Though, I guess in a way Old Navy is all about being over. Like where fashion goes to die. But. Weird.
