Portugal. The Man + Blake Miller

17 July 2006 :: posted by Travis

Portugal The Man

Anyone familiar with Rudyard Kipling’s short story “How The Leopard Got Its Spots”? Short story even shorter: Leopard can’t catch Zebra and Giraffe because they camouflage into the jungle. This is like before Leopard has spots, and he’s just unicolor. So anyway. Leopard is all annoyed so Man paints some spots on him, and then he’s all hot and can hide and hunt. Basically. I’m sure there’s a moral there too.

Portugal. The Man’s song of the same title has standout lyric’s “Why do we hide behind such ugly faces.” You put two an two together. I’m sure there’s even a greater moral there.

Blake Miller of Moving Units gives Portugal. The Man’s prog-pop track a Blondiesque New Wave feeling. Kind of like Man, he gives the track some spots. It’s definitly a refreshing take on the original version.

    “It’s Complicated Being A Wizard” is a seamless 46 minute journey. 23 minutes through the first time and then around again, like an ethereal dream state which intertwines around itself. Repetition is important to the effectiveness of affirmation.
