My Robot Friend

As a fan, My Robot Friend’s Dial 0 is a tough album. Half of the tracks on Dial 0 are “old.” “Rapture” and “JerBer” have been showcased on My Robot Friend’s website for years. “Problems” and “Swallow” were released on net label Sweet Smelling Surfaces in 2004. And of course, “The Cut” was the standout track from Zombie Nation’s 2003 album, Absorber. It is always rough to have a favorite artist release a new album full of tracks you’ve already listened to and processed. Of course though, most people aren’t total freaks like me and have not tracked down every track since the Robot’s 2002 debut, Hot Action. Dial 0 does not only act as a collection of rarities, but also works as a wonderful sophmore release. And for most people, Dial 0 will be all new.
I’m always interested in My Robot Friend because he’s creating electronic dance music but still keeps many organic elements in his music. He’s like a cyborg caught between two world: human and machine.
The most interesting track on the album is “One More Try” and features Antony from Antony and The Johnsons. This is definitely pushing Howard Robot’s style… creating a southern electro soul track.

I just looked at bigstereo.net for the first time. That’s a pretty cool opening page.
