Unarmed Enemies

It seems like I am posting a ton of Swedish bands lately. I guess I’ve just been really feeling the sounds of Sweden’s indie-pop. Unarmed Enemies is one band that is so on.
The first thing that draws me to Unarmed Enemies is the same of a lot of indie-electro-pop bands. They poses a certain amount of naiveté and callowness that is totally built out of honesty. The DIY asthetic is not one that can be deliberately created… or at least easily created by trying. Like, there is a certain since of urgency and earnestness, a conviction almost, to create music. And the music they create is created by necessity and not by the tools (or lack of tools) the band possesses. This idea isn’t specific to Unarmed Enemies of course… plug in Tracy + The Plastics, early Le Tigre, Tender Forever, The Postal Service, etc. You get the idea.
Unarmed Enemies succeed. They create great DIY indie-electro-pop. Part dance, part indie, part pop. Their music is what it is… nothing more or less.
Rarely is it a challenge to pick just one or two songs for you guys to listen to. Really, I would love for you to just listen to it all. But…
Unarmed Enemies - “The Binging” (mp3)
Unarmed Enemies - “Missing Out” (Otur Summer Twist Rmx) (mp3)
Unarmed Enemies also have a lot of their music up for free on their website and Myspace… that’s where I copped these tunes. Nerds, gotta love the internet.
