Envelopes

20 Jazz Funk Greats sum up Envelopes’ newest single, “Free Jazz”, perfectly:

It sounds like the Go Team if they decided to self-actualise themselves as Stereo Total on a pleasant picnic in the lounge psyche garden where Stereolab used to have fun in 10 years ago.

At a great risk of becoming a video blog…

Watch: Envelopes - “Free Jazz” (mov)

Not that it is all Go Team vs. Stereo Total. Envelopes’ “Isabel And Leonard” and “Sister In Love” deviate slightly from that feeling of “pleasant picnic in the lounge psyche garden” but… they’re still fuzzy, indie-pop tracks that have hints of indie, pop and new wave. Think something like the youthfulness of Boy Least Likely To and the free spirit of The Moldy Peaches (though perhaps not as crazy or crazy in a slightly less absurd way).

And yes, a perfect way to start a week. Even though today is Tuesday.
