Kudu

However cool you think you are, Kudu is like fifty times cooler.
Sometimes an album drops in your lap that you just have to stop whatever you are doing and listen. Kudu is this way. Whatever I was expecting was totally not what I got. But then how could you expect Kudu? What could have been a simple electro-rock album is simply not. Kudu did not take the easy way out. They created a masterful hodgepodge that does not reflect on the flavor of the month, but rather an eclectic blend of sounds and styles that seems to be honest to themselves alone. Like I said, Kudu’s Death of the Party could have been a simple electro-rock album and stopped there. But they went above and beyond with influences ranging from R&B to hip-hop to stripped down funk to pure pop to 60s girl groups to 90s dance to whatever. And while all these sounds could totally be juxtaposed against each other, Death of the Party never feels this way. There is unique synergy that just feels so natural.
Kudu is what N*E*R*D should have been, but was never successful at achieving.
Kudu - “Magic Touch”
Kudu’s Death of the Party comes out on Tuesday, March 16th. Unless you’re like in a coma there is no reason not to buy this album. Still early to say, but Death of the Party could easily be in my top ten albums of 2006. Definitely ones to watch in 2006.

i wasn’t as stoked on this mp3 as i was on the MFR one.. but neither song was as “dancy” as you, or MFR, made it out to be. i smell marketing influence creeping in somewhere..

a) awesome. i’m glad they’re getting more exposure than i can provide.
b) i’m sorry it’s not dancy enough. they released “bar song” as a single with remixes. check that out.

i wasn’t being snappy. i owe you, and the other bigstereo heads, a lot of credit for what you guys do. it’s thanks to you that i know what’s going on with what’s coming up. i was just a bit surprised at the comments because they sorta deviate from the norm in that they seemed a bit “fed” - especially saying kudu “is what N*E*R*D should have been, but never was successful at”

no, i’m being snappy. just a long day. BUT. honestly, in this case i didn’t even see a press sheet or anything. the only review i read was the promo blurb on amazon. so…
on first listen i made a connection to N*E*R*D… honestly, the record feels very similar to their production. BUT i don’t feel like N*E*R*D was ever successful in that they seemed to be more concerned at being commercially appealing rather than making good music. kudu succeeds because they don’t seem to give a fuck. i don’t know. that was my first impression. maybe i should’ve been a little more clear.

I think “Love Me in Your Language” and “Playing House” are better examples to show the quality music on this album. I bought it after hearing “Love Me…” on Jeannie Hopper’s Liquid Sound Lounge. I don’t know if I entirely agree with the N.E.R.D. comparison since I feel like the vibe of both groups are entirely different, but Travis has pretty much hit the nail on the head overall.

KUDU is headling a special “industry” showcase and video shoot this Sat night and ANYONE can get in for FREE. There’s an Bacardi sponsored open bar from 8:30-11pm and they are giving away a Vespa. Sick. The rest of the line-up is dope too. Go to http://www.myspace.com/kudu and http://www.barsputnik.com for more info. The listed RSVP e-mail address is imagontheradar@gmail.com. Apparently you can bring as many peeps as you like! Free mojitos and free Kudu? I am there.
