Kavinsky

Like Franz and Shape before him, Kavinsky takes on high speed driving, house beats, and arpeggios with his track “Testarossa Autodrive.” After dying in a car crash in 1986, he is a zombie, and that means two things: he eats brains, and you don”™t want to be in the passenger seat.

Although, he has made friends, presumably post-mortem, with Mr. Oizo and Dopplereffekt, both of which have remixes on this release, the Teddy Boy EP. Given that Kavinsky and Mr. Oizo are French, the Testarossa is Italian, and Dopplereffekt (here as Arpanet) is from Detroit, this is a truly international release “¦ and particularly impressive for a dead guy.

Musically this release fits nicely alongside “Countach” and the Braxe/Falke track “Rubicon.” Although, if you”™re feeling ambitious, you can make some fairly easy connections to the Ballard novel “Crash,” any number of humans versus technology critiques, or Kraftwerk”™s “Autobahn.”

Either way, this is some serious Beverly Hills Cop meets Miami Vice action, and you need a piece.

P.s. With his production work for Kavinsky and Uffie, is Mr. Oizo finally going to get some attention?!
