Music from Sweden always defines generations. You ask for proof? ABBA and Max Martin. Well add the Ark to that list because they’re about to take over.

The Ark is one of those bands that hype has slowly been building and building and building around. I have to admit I was kind of waiting on the edge of my seat to receive their disc in the mail. Hype, a lot of times, is just that – hype. But this time around it’s totally deserving.

The Ark has released three records in Sweden, and they’re finally set to release their third album, State Of The Ark, here in the US on April 11th. State Of The Ark is eccentric and eclectic … like the love child of Ziggie Stardust and Elton John with a little bit of Freddie Mercury’s edge. They tap into the same energy and era as the Scissor Sisters, but, to be frank, do it better. I mean, the Scissor Sisters seem to rely on irony, while the Ark seem sincere in their execution. Or at least feel sincere — in a fun way.

I’m very excited that The Ark is releasing State of the Ark stateside. I’ve been following them for a while and I loved their first two LPs. I’m glad that I’ll be able to see them when do a gig here in L.A. @ Spaceland.

hi, I’m trying to find out whether the Ark’s forthcoming album in the US is actually their first one in the US. Is the info from their website, or where could I check it? Could you get back to me asap, please.

Yes, “State of the Ark” is their first album released in the US.

State of the Ark is their 3rd album. I recommend their first two albums, which in some ways are harder than their third album. They are available as imports on Amazon. They have a good 10 bsides and rarities too, all great. Just really well-constructed melodious theatrical rock with some very wise lyrics. I have known the band since 1997, when they played my college dorm here in Sweden. If anyone is interested in mp3s, feel free to contact me at eric@radioaf.com
