Delta 5
posted by Travis
In recent years, Delta 5 has been viewed as one of the more important new wave/punk/funk bands of the late 70s and early 80s. Their career was short lived and only recorded a handful of singles and one album. Not only were they an inspiration to riot-grrl bands such as Bikini Kill and Sleater-Kinney, but Chicks On Speed’s cover of Delta 5′s “Mind Your Own Business” helped spark off, for better or worse, what was known as electroclash in the very early 2000s. Delta 5 seems as relevant today (maybe even more relevant) as they did 25 years ago, but to the frustration of many music fans, most of their work has been long out of print or difficult to find. You’re lucky if you find one of their songs on a random compilation. That is all set to change my friends. Kill Rock Stars is set to re-issue much of D5′s work and have put tigether a definitive collection: Singles And Sessions 1979-1981. Look for D5 in stores January 24th.
