What better way to start out 2006 than with The Gossip? Seriously. The Gossip’s Standing In The Way Of Control, one of the most eagerly anticipated albums of 2006, is set for release on January 24th from Kill Rock Stars. Beth Ditto and Brace Paine are back with newbie Hannah Blilie who gives new life to the band. Standing In The Way Of Control is something like an electro album minus the synths. It’s stripped down alt-indie will have you shaking on the dancefloor like you were just saved by Jesus or something. But it’s not all about dancing, slower songs like “Coal To Diamonds” will make you stop and go “woah.” Kiss-off “Listen Up!” has always been a stand-out track during their live shows and doesn’t disapoint on wax. It somehow crosses the line between disco-punk and indie-blues. One of 2005’s hottest single, “Standing In The Way Of Control,” is like a perfect mix between The Pointer Sisters, Pat Benatar and Dolly Parton that will have you dancing way out of control.
