Big Dee Irwin & Little Eva

Big Dee Irwin & Little Eva’s “I Wish You A Merry Christmas” is currently my favorite holiday song. Luckily, this lost gem was resurrected on A John Waters Christmas album last year, and it has gotten a lot of play at my house (year round) since then. “I Wish You A Merry Christmas” sounds like John Waters – kitschy and classic and almost twisted – it’s almost a surprise that it was not written and recorded for a John Waters’ Christmas movie – if there was such a thing. Really, It sounds as though it could have been in Cry Baby or Hairspray had Cry Baby or Hairspray been set during the holiday season. Anyway, I’m sure Ricki Lake is rocking out to it right now.
