Yeah yeah so every blog writes about this band. I think it is mostly because they can find a spot in everyone’s heart. Jim James vocal’s melt your heart and can bring tears to your eyes. I remember hearing this band about 2 years ago, I was going through a really tough time and couldn’t bring myself to listen to anything but My Morning Jacket. I am not usually attracted to anything even remotely country sounding. In fact there is probably only about 3 bands that I can say I enjoy that even have a slight country feel. This band seems to bring it together though in a way that anyone can enjoy. It reminds me a lot of Mazzy Star and Beth Gibbons solo project.
The new album “Z” brings joy to my ipod because although the rough times are gone, the new sound of this record seems to sound fresh and upbeat. “Z” seems way more uplifting and pop to me then the last few records. The first single “Off the Record” at times does not even sound like MMM. I can feel some more Rock ‘N’ Roll aesthetics to this album, the kind they portray in their live shows.
If you are to buy an album this year that you can listen to over and over while making breakfasts, cleaning house, or even while cuddling with a partner “Z” is it!
“Knot Comes Loose” is one of my favorite tracks on “Z”. It brings memories of autumn leaves and warm fuzzy blankets.
“Z” is just plainly beautiful.
