Sharon Jones And The Dap Kings
6 October 2005 :: posted by TravisHow about something a little different from the normal bigstereo drivel? I was handed this record a while back and have since wanted to post about it . But I haven’t known where to start – mainly because it is so out of my realm and knowledge base. It is so good though. I have to say something.
Basically. Sharon Jones And The Dap Kings sound like all those classic Soul and Motown records we all listened to growing up. But the catch is they’re totally contemporary. ‘Naturally’, the bands second album with Sharon Jones, came out last January and has received much critical acclaim. Even though the songs sound like they could’ve been written and recorded 40 years ago, the record never seems trite or dated. ‘Naturally’ makes sense even in a contemporary settting. It rises above nostalgia, and by the end of the record you never doubt that it was released less than a year ago. How could it not?
It’s impossible to not love this album. ‘Naturally’ has all the funk and soul you need to get your day started on the right foot.
The best place to purchase ‘Naturally’ is probably from the band’s label. They also have mp3 samples of most of the tracks.
Purchase: Daptone Records

I just saw her this Sunday in Cleveland. She is a big fan of pulling people onto the stage to funk dance with her. I luckily got to do this and it was very neat. She is one of the most energetic performers ever ever.
