The Goxxip + We Are Wolves
music 21 September 2005 :: posted by TravisLast night, I caught The Gossip at the Space Gallery. Short set + lackluster audience = not the best Gossip show ever. It probably doesn’t help that the local rag has never heard of The Gossip. What is that? And where did they find that writer – at the media center in the local Walmart? Lame. Hint: Google
The Gossip’s new drummer, Hannah from the band Shoplifting, was a pleasant surprise. She added some energy that was missing before. And she can play. The Gossip ended their set with a new song that is easily the best of their career (little info on this.. is it called “Standing in the Way of Control” ?). They’ll be releasing it October 11th on 12″ with a remix by Le Tigre and art by Kim Gordon.
The real surprise was Montreal’s We Are Wolves (not to be confused with Wolf Parade or Patrick Wolf). They totally proved my theory: you only really need a bass, synth and drum kit in a band. We Are Wolves hint at territory already claimed by Death From Above 1979, A.R.E. Weapons and Suicide, but they are definitely doing their own thing and creating their own sound. I am an instant fan.
Listen: We Are Wolves – “T.R.O.U.B.L.E.” (mp3)
Watch: We Are Wolves – “Vamos a la Playa” (mpg)
Keep an eye on these guys. If there is any justice in the world this band will be huge.
Purchase: We Are Wolves – ‘Non-Stop Je Te Plie En Deux’
