Rchrd Oh?!: First of all thanks for taking a few minutes from your touring schedule to answer some questions.
Where are you guys currently? And how long have you been on tour now?
Crossover: Hailz RCHRD OH?! Thanx for the interview and yr interest in CROSSOVER, V&ZED and The Mystik Trucker Association. Currently in Berlin at the Gigolo office,,, We were living in Kreuzberg (west side), and will be relocating to Friedrichshain (east side) until November to tour around Europa, Asia and Australia. Spreading the verb for “Cryptic and Dire Sallow faced Hoods blast off into Oblivion”. We have been touring for only three weeks.
R: How’s the touring coming along?
C: It”™s been ace! It starts picking up in September. So far we have had ritual reenactments in order: Munich, Berlin-Beghain, Barcelona-Sonar, Toronto, Montreal-NEON, Poznen-Poland, Berlin-WMF.
R: What cities you planning on visiting? any confirmed dates? Any US dates? You guys put on a fantastic show, come play in my living room will you?
C: UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Austria, Holland, Russia, Japan. These are all coming up September, October and November. Coming back to the States for a proper tour bus winter. As for yr living room ““ sure thing just long as it can hack the rider.
R: Now for questions about the new album “Cryptic & Dire Sallow Faced Hoods Blast Off Into Oblivion”, which not to sound like a kiss ass, but i seriously love it. I’ve been waiting forever for you guys to release something. What took so long? Vacation?
C: Thanx, glad you dig it. After a tour of a year and five months we decided to stop touring and record an album. One year writing and recording demos-one year fighting with our label-6 months writing and recording more songs to finish the album. One half was recorded in the winter in the woodz, and the other off sunset strip with Matt Sims (editors note: aka Mount Sims). Indeed it waz fvcking great to complete the album and get it out into the world.

R: I like yr guys rendition of “Apples On A Stick” whose idea was that? I love the cover of “I am the Fly” as well. I notice bands covering Wire these days. Any other covers you have tried, maybe even some that haven’t worked?
C: “Apples On A Stick” is a strange playground rhyme. It”™s a Vani song. The Fly thing we did with Adam Sky. He asked that of Vani when we visited him in Sitches, Spain a couple of
summers ago. But that”™s not on our album though!”¦ It”™s only available on the CELLAR DOOR release-001. DEMOZ *BOOTLEGS & REMIXES”¦ It waz officially released on Thank You Records, London. It”™s on an Adam Sky release along with an amazing song with Afrika Bambbata called “Nucelar Bomb”. We have considered a lot of covers yet, we will have
to hold out for the “all covers” release. We are considering having some under our belts to pull out of our trick bag at Live RITUALZ.*
R: What is “Pointy Little Teeth” really about? Kinda reminds me of the Tenderloin in San Francisco. I remember I walked out of my place listening to that song and I felt dirty. It’s a great song though.
C: PLT is about Blood Suckers, plain and simple. You nailed it!
R: Do you tend to write lyrics with some sort of personal meaning? Hidden meaning?
C: Always personal, always hidden, and always double meaning,,,
R: The album to me also sounds a lot less lo-fi than before. You get nicer equipment? What kind of equipment do you guys use?
C: Korg X5D, Micro Korg, and other assorted Korg synthesizers and Moogs, Roland SPD-6, Toms, Bass, Guitar, Electric Xylophone, lots of make shift percussion and hand claps.
R: You guys are great because you combine different styles of music and make it yr own. I hear a bit of goth influence on some of your new album. Was that a big part of working with Matt Simms? I remember having a conversation with him about Rozz Williams and some other dark influences. What are some of your influences? musically? and not?
C: It made sense for us to work with Matt. It was a super experience. All it took was one 4 hour phone call on a Saturday afternoon, a couple of detailed emails and a couple of envelopes with demos enclosed from AZ to LA, close shot. We recorded 8 songs in 2 weeks. Magical. We have always been a bit Goth, you just weren”™t looking”¦

R: Speaking of Matt I see you guys worked with some pretty cool people. How was that experience? How in the world did you hook up with Carlo Pennisi of Goblin? It’s fucking brilliant.
C: We ended up getting on very well with Matt. Every session waz dark and underlit. We would go 12 hours a day/night. Carlo is a friend of Vani”™s father. We worked with him a bit in Florida on “My Wave”. He is a super guy and it waz an honor working with him as we
are big fans of Goblin.
R: You guys definately must be into horror flicks. There is definately something to Italian Horror films and soundtracks. So what is your favorite Horror flick? Director? Scene?
C: Oh man, there are so many”¦ Here are just a few: Sure we luv the Argento films, and all the Goblin Soundtrax, Cherry Five, and all the off shoots & 12″”™s*
