a few compilations
30 May 2005 :: posted by TravisSummer time… what’s better than a few compilations? Perfect for last minute parties and lemonade stands.
This is perhaps the most blogged about CD put out by a blog ever. That might be because it’s the first (?) CD put out by a blog ever. All these tracks are exclusive to music (for-robots), and, according to their site, this disc has something for everybody. Limited to 1000 copies… get yours before it’s sold out.
Includes tracks from: Avenue D, Death From Above 1979 and a bunch of other bands no one has ever heard of (to be that cool).
Try: ShushShush – "How To Lie"

Ah. Gentle Electric is the latest compilation from the Larry Tee camp. Depending on who you ask, Larry Tee is either: a) the Godfather of an entire genre of music or b) exploited an entire genre of music and drove it into the ground. Regardless of what side of the fence you sit on, one thing can be agreed on.. he has great ears and eyes for spotting new talent and creating great compilations around these bands and artists. Gentle Electric is a bit of a departure from his previous compilations… focusing on a softer side. This is SoftElectroPopRock (maybe I should copyright that before someone else does).
Includes tracks from: Freezepop, The Somnambulants, Rise NYC, Duke, etc.
Try: Math – "Business Cards"

Run The Road came out a couple months ago, but it’s worth mentioning now. This is the first big Grime compilation to hit the States put out by the über cool Vice Records. This comp includes The Streets and Dizzee Rascal who have already received a small taste of critical success in the States. And it includes a few others who are ready to make the leap. Is Grime the next big thing? Blogs love blogging about it as much as they love blogging about J.Lo. And skinny white guys who buy too many records love listening to it. But who knows if it can really make much of a dent in America’s “conservative” urban music scene. Anyway. Buy this disc, invite some friends over and let them think you’re cooler than you actually are.
Includes tracks from: The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, Lady Sovereign, etc.
Try: Lady Sovereign – "Cha Ching"
