vanessa and the o’s

I randomly came across this band a couple weeks ago.. and not by way of the most obvious path. Vanessa and The O’s is James Iha’s current band.. post-Smashing Pumpkins, post-Solo album, post-A Perfect Circle. It is his best project since the Pumpkins released Gish.

Info is sketchy at best about this band. Their bio has the only real info I could find. Seems like their album is currently only available in Sweden (?) but you can stream the album for free here .

James Iha dot Org (one of the best fansites I’ve seen in ages btw) has a lot of good info too. Including streams of a lot of James Iha’s work over the years.

Well what do V and The O”™s sound like? First listen I instantly thought of Nico, Belle and Sebastion.. even Air at times. But their bio puts it best:

Well with recent Lou Reed collaboratrice Vanessa slipping between French and English like a latter-day Bardot over the jangling guitars and shimmering Spector-ish songs and soundscapes of The O”™s “˜La Ballade d”™O”™ simply transports us to another world! Take a trip with Vanessa & The O”™s.

1. james iha has really been into sweden for a while, does he live there now? i remember he was all about The Sounds, remember them? he was gonna sign them onto his US label, did he? I have the swedish import. Well I’m glad he’s doing stuff over there. There is a shitload of good music coming out of Sweden. Ask my Swedish friends and they will deny it. This band has been doing some stuff for a while though, I remember hearing one of their songs maybe a year ago. I hadnt heard that much though, but I do of course remember the high influence of Nico, duh!

3. i know he keeps an apt in nyc because i used to see him all the time… at shows and stuff. but. i don’t really know these days.

   they’ve been around a couple years but don’t have much out. hm.

   the sounds! are they coming with a new disc anytime soon? they kind of disappeared.

7. well, they are certainly out of the studio now;;they just played four live dates in sweden and have tracks on national radio across scandinavia right now.;found one radio chart with an O`s track Bagatelle at number1..loys of info on jamesiha.org site
