fannypack is back

See You Next Tuesday (C U Next Tuesday), the latest from Fannypack, dropped last Tuesday and is my guilty pleasure du jour. It’s hot. Yo. Their first cd, So Stylistic, was a favorite of mine a couple years ago. They were like Avenue D’s younger high school sisters. And that really floated my boat in 2003 as Ave. D did in 2002. But now it’s 2005 and Fannypack has delivered See You Next Tuesday. And boy have they delivered. This album is the next level… much more dynamic and street than their debut.

This is how it goes when I turn on See You Next Tuesday: The first thing that comes to mind is Gillette’s Do Fries Go With That Shake. Does anyone remember this song? Or am I the only person who owns DJ Mix ’96? Then I think about how Gwen Stefani is in her mid-thirties and pretending to be a cheerleader. And how she’s not a cheerleader. Belinda, Cat and Jessibel could so kick her ass. Then I think about how played out that L’Trimm song got amongst all my hipster friends and how Fannypack is so much better.. even though L’Trimm is good too. Then I wonder why they didn’t sample Karen O in this album like they did in the first one. Finally, I wonder about Fancy and Matt and if they’re really big ol’ homos or if they really are straight like they say they are. By that time See You Next Tuesday is over. And I push play again and think about all the same things.
