We could start a basement band…

There are two things I love more than anything: androgynous lesbians and moody music. I love it even more when the androgynous lesbians are making the moody music. Bonus points if they”™re from Canada.
So of course I would be all hot for The Organ. The Organ have had a whirlwind couple years and have quickly built quite the cult following. They’re collecting good reviews like badges and even landed a pretty big guest spot on the hit Showtime drama The L Word. They also seem to be constantly touring.. so try and catch their show if they hit your town.
I have been listening to their disc on repeat: at home, in the car, at work. I can’t get enough. At first it was the sound of the music that I was drawn to. There are clear influences. The Smiths, Joy Division, The Cure and New Order all come to mind at times. But after more listens, the lyrics became my primary focus. They are visual and clear, deadly on target, in the same way that Joni Mitchell’s lyrics are visual and clear. You can see and feel The Organ’s lyrics:
“we should go down to the mall
look at people, judge them all
judge them before they judge us and leave there feeling badwe should sit and pick our hands
i think you”™re a genius
and when we make your hangnails bleed
you deserve a phd”

I really like this band. I saw them open for The New Pornographers once and loved what I saw.
