posted by Travislet’s be honest here. i don’t know about you, but i am not a fan of dj mix cds. something is lost during the translation from the club to my home stereo. it’s just never as good.
but that said, i have always been thrilled with !K7′s dj-kicks. i’m always waiting on the edge of my seat for the next instalment. it seems like this series is honest. you can tell that the djs pick tracks that they know and love… not tracks that are trendy or are demanded by the clubs.
the glimmers dj-kicks mix does not let down. it makes me remember why electroclash was so good. and still is. yeah it’s not cool to say you like this any more. even electroclash artists are desperately trying to distance themselves from that word. i don”™t blame them. it”™s a horrible genre name and the punchline to too many bad jokes. like shoulder pads in the eighties.
but the glimmers take it on. and don’t seem to be afraid to love what is so uncool these days. they start out with some classic bis. god do i love me some bis. side note: bis has reformed as panik and you can buy two new tracks. their mix slithers from there. if electroclash is not uncool enough they push on. past bis. past peaches… bringing up some acid and house and disco. being so not cool has never been so cool before. in fact they seem to touch on everything in dance music that was good that isn’t considered good anymore but actually is still good. confused? it’s like a tornado.
i don’t know. this just may be my summer mix. perfect for the beach. or late night, last minute parties. or just driving with the windows down. this is it kids.
the disc goes on sale april 19th or even better yet… stream the entire album here.
